Our Process
Custom Doesn’t Mean Complicated
Ordering a custom dining table doesn’t have to be complicated.
Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want. Others have a general idea but want help working through the details. Either way works.
Most custom tables move through five simple stages:
- Initial conversation — we look at the space and seating needs
- Material direction — wood species, style, and finish
- Confirming the details — dimensions, base style, and pricing
- Building the table — crafted in our Nisku studio
- Delivery & installation — placed in your home
From the first conversation to delivery, the process stays simple and clear. As we refine the design together, we look at the space, proportions, wood selection, and how the table will live in the room over time.
If something looks great on its own but doesn’t work well in the space, we’ll point that out and suggest better options.
At each step, you’ll know exactly what comes next.
Initial Conversation
Every project starts with a conversation.
We talk about the size of your space, how many people the table needs to seat, and the overall direction of the room. Some clients already know the wood species they want. Others are still exploring options.
The goal at this stage is simple — understand the space and what will work best within it.
If you’re unsure about table size, our table sizing guide can help you start thinking about proportions.
Choosing the Materials
Once the overall direction is clear, we refine the materials.
We review wood species such as walnut, white oak, maple, cherry, and red oak, along with options like solid wood, live edge, or epoxy depending on the style you’re drawn to.
We also discuss the level of grain character, stain options, and finish tone so the table complements the surrounding materials in your home.
You can explore these options in more detail on our materials page.
Confirming the Details
Before the build begins, we finalize the design.
This includes exact dimensions, table thickness, edge profile, base style, finish tone, and final pricing.
Typical build time ranges from 8–12 weeks, depending on the design and current production schedule.
At this stage you’ll know exactly what the table will look like and how it will be built.
No guesswork. No surprises.
Building Your Table
Your table is built in our Nisku studio using solid hardwood and joinery designed for long-term stability.
Each piece is made to order — not pulled from inventory or mass produced.
Every table is built specifically for the home it’s going into.
This allows us to focus on proportion, structure, and finish so the table looks balanced in the room and performs well over time.
Delivery & Set-up
When the table is complete, we arrange delivery.
We provide delivery and setup throughout the Edmonton area and can arrange shipping across Alberta.
Once in place, the table is ready to be used and lived with — exactly as it was designed for your home.
Lets Start the Conversation
Every dining room is a little different, which is why many homeowners choose a custom dining table.
At Taitlin Studio, each table is built to fit the room it will live in. Dimensions, wood selection, and base style can all be tailored to suit the space and seating needs.
If you’re ready to start the conversation, reach out and tell us about your home, the size you’re considering, and the styles you’re drawn to. You don’t need every detail figured out before reaching out — that’s what the conversation is for
