How We Build Our Tables
There are two main table base styles we build for our custom dining tables.
The top is always premium hardwood. What changes is how the base is constructed and how the table fits your space.
We focus on defined styles, not endless variations. From there, we adjust size and wood selection to suit your home.
Solid Wood Top with Steel Base
Pairing a hardwood top with a steel base keeps the overall look lighter and more open.
The wood brings warmth and natural movement. The steel keeps the base clean and simple. This approach works especially well in modern or transitional spaces where legroom and visual openness matter.
The Ironwood Dining Table pair a solid wood top with multiple steel leg options.
Fully Solid Wood Construction
When both the top and base are solid wood tables, the table has a cohesive, all-wood look.
It brings warmth to the room while keeping the design straightforward. The leg style and size affect the appearance, but the construction approach stays the same.
Designed to Fit the Room
We don’t change how the table is built — we change the size to fit your space.
We consider seating needs, traffic flow, and how the table relates to the room so it feels natural once installed — not too large or too small.
Built for Real Homes
Every table is built in our Nisku studio using quality hardwood chosen for strength and character, then finished to stand up to daily use.
Whether steel base or fully wood construction, each table is made to handle real life — not just staged photos.
The goal is simple: a solid wood table that stays in your home for decades.
No matter the style, every dining table we build begins with the same foundation: high-quality solid wood, careful lumber selection, and a design process focused on balance — not excess.
Wood Options
The wood you choose sets the tone of the entire table — from colour to texture to how it feels in the room over time and help you choose what wood type we use on your dining table.
We work primarily with walnut, white oak, maple, cherry, and red oak for everyday use. Each species has its own strengths, and we help you choose one that works with your space, light, and how you live.
Walnut
Walnut is known for its deep brown colour and natural variation. It carries a richness that immediately draws people in and gives a dining room a more substantial, finished feel.
The colour ranges from lighter caramel tones to darker chocolate browns, often within the same board, which adds depth without feeling busy. It’s dense and durable, and it holds up well to everyday use.
If you’re looking for a table that feels warm, elevated, and a little more striking the moment you walk into the room, walnut is often the direction people choose.
White Oak
White oak has a lighter, more neutral tone with subtle natural texture. It keeps a dining room feeling bright and open while still adding warmth.
Its grain is present but not overpowering, which makes it easy to live with long-term. It’s a strong, durable hardwood that stands up well to daily use and takes stain evenly if you want to adjust the colour.
If walnut feels rich and dramatic, white oak feels calm and balanced — a wood that works quietly in almost any space.
Maple
Maple has a light, natural tone with a smooth, consistent look. It keeps the focus on the shape of the table rather than strong colour or bold grain.
It’s a very hard, durable wood that stands up well to daily use. Because the grain is tighter and more uniform, it creates a cleaner appearance in the room.
If you prefer something bright and understated — where the table supports the space rather than becoming the centre of attention — maple is often the right fit.
Cherry
Cherry has a naturally warm tone that deepens over time with exposure to light. It starts lighter and gradually develops a richer, darker colour as it ages.
The grain is smooth and subtle, giving the table a clean surface with a softer feel than oak. In a dining room, cherry adds warmth without strong contrast or heavy texture.
It’s a great choice if you like the idea of your table gaining depth and character as the years go on.
Red Oak
Red oak is durable, reliable, and full of visible texture. Its grain is more pronounced than white oak, giving the table more natural pattern and movement.
It takes stain exceptionally well, which makes it a great choice if you want to fine-tune the final colour — from light tones to deeper browns.
In a dining room, red oak brings a bit more presence and character while still holding up to everyday use.
Beyond the species itself, we also talk about how much natural character you want to see.
Some clients prefer a cleaner look with minimal knots and variation. Others like more contrast, colour shifts, and visible markings. We select boards intentionally to match the overall direction of the table.
Every table is built from solid hardwood — never veneer — and designed to handle natural seasonal changes in Alberta’s climate.
Sizing & Layout
Many people ask about “standard” table sizes.
Whether the table will sit in a dedicated dining room or serve as your everyday kitchen table, we size it intentionally for how you use it.
Seating Guidelines
As a general starting point:
Plan for about 24″ of width per person for comfortable seating.
Leave about 36–42″ between the edge of the table and walls, cabinets, or other furniture so people can sit down and move around easily.
If there’s a kitchen island with stools, patio doors, or a main walkway nearby, we take that into account as well. The goal is to make sure chairs can slide out comfortably and people can move through the room without squeezing past.
Typical length ranges:
60–72″ → seats 6
72–84″ → seats 6–8
84–96″ → seats 8–10
These are guidelines — final dimensions depend on your space and how much room you want at each seat.
Proportion Matters
Thickness, leg positioning, and base scale influence how substantial a table feels. A larger room may benefit from stronger visual weight.
A tighter space may require refinement and visual lightness. These decisions are made intentionally so the table feels integrated — not oversized or underbuilt

Built Locally
Every table is built in our Nisku shop, just outside Edmonton, using carefully selected solid hardwood.
Board selection, layout, and base construction are planned together so the finished table feels cohesive from every angle. We care about how each piece comes together — visually and structurally — not just that it goes together.
The wood is given time to adjust to our climate before building. Each handmade dining table is assembled and finished to handle real everyday use in Alberta homes.
The result is a table that looks intentional, feels well made, and is built with the intention of becoming part of your home for decades.
Delivery & Shipping
We deliver throughout Edmonton and the surrounding area, placing the table in your home and setting it up for you.
For clients elsewhere in Alberta, we coordinate secure freight shipping.
Before crating, we send detailed photos and video of the completed table so you can see the final result before it leaves our shop. The table is then carefully crated for transport.
Minor assembly may be required upon delivery, and we provide clear instructions when needed.
Shipping and crating are priced separately and confirmed in advance.
